The growth drivers
Carlos Grzelak Jr., Sales&Access Director of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, believes that the year 2011 was very positive. "It has been a good year for the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil, with 2 digit-growth rates meeting the expectancies we had at the beginning of 2011", he says. "Ordinary and well-known generics have been the growth drivers of the retailing market (drugstores), besides the "beauty market" (cosmetics, dermocosmetics, procedures, etc.) which has also grown significantly. The growing purchase of drugs by the government and initiatives like Farmácia Popular (Popular drugstore) also deserve our attention as they provide better quality of life to the population", he adds.
Mergers and acquisitions
The executive believes that mergers and acquisitions keep on being strong in the market, which "show the consolidation of the sector including the chain of drugstores ". "Another aspect is that foreign companies have started working in Brazil, like Amgem this year (through Bérgamo acquisition), aggregating competitiveness and also opportunity for professionals ", he says.
What can we expect for 2012?
According to Sales&Access Director of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, the industry professionals should, in 2012, be ready to be flexible (and why not resilient) enough to be suitable for new situations about to come up inside their companies or even out of them, as well as to be successful when facing new challenges. "The professionals who are more connected will be the ones who will certainly win, as they will bring the best opportunities for the companies they work for. Besides, that´s a globalized market and companies from several countries still keep an eye on Brazil, therefore, the networking must be global and the professional must be totally ready to Interact with foreigners", he wraps up.
