Get ready to sell to your boss
In her new book called “Para Competir com Criatividade e Inovação” (How to Compete with Creativity and Innovation) the Human Resources consultant Maria Inês Felippe says that every executive should have assertive communication, cooperation, commitment and coordination.
According to Maria Inês, clearing up your mind is the primary condition to start the creative process. “Creating means, firstly, breaking up with personal paradigms and, secondly, the social ones.”. She gives us some tips:
Creativity and Personal Innovation: at the company you work for, try to break the “mechanical behavior” by showing ideas for new products and services, and by improving what you already do and the organizational environment. Practicing exercises and techniques that estimulate creativity will help you come up with new ideas that will stand out.
Assertive Communication: get ready to sell to your boss, develop a precise project, use your creativity skills and the available resources by always comparing the actual and the desired situations. There are techniques to help you sell ideas as well as to help you buy ideas. Showing is not enough, knowing how to sell your idea is a must.
Cooperation and Commitment: every single person has a unique kind of intelligence and when some people get together it results in a very special creation. Enjoy this moment to find out which kind of intelligence skill you fit. You may have your friends as well as other people’s support.
Coordination: we can’t think of leading people if we are independent, if we cannot lead ourselves. The first step is to have clear objectives, goals and deadlines. The same kind of behavior will help you presenting your idea to your boss, but take into account all your colleagues’ cooperation. There is a moment, however, in which it will be necessary to play the role of a leader in order to apply the required techniques and to create conditions that may estimulate your partners’ creativity when carrying out a project.
