Interview

Why should we cause unnecessary discomfort to patients?

During an exclusive interview to Top Team, Fernanda, who is majored in publicity from ECA/USP and holds an International Executive MBA from FIA, says that those professionals are extremely required and feel recognized when participating in initiatives like this one.

The executive also comments about the studies which go against an old reality: people considered fat by the BMI, needed to use thicker needles than the people considered thin. Follow the main parts of the interview below:

Top Team: BD carries out a medical detailing project for pharmacies in Brazil. How does it work?
Fernanda Vilallobos: We share information about Diabetes, procedures and techniques with pharmacy professionals. We assist them, for instance, to avoid mistakes when applying and also to change the place of application in order to prevent injuries. They are highly demanded by patients in general, complementing the medical work, but are still in need of information.

Top Team: How do you assess the first months of the initiative?
Fernanda Vilallobos: The professionals have been open to new information and have accepted hints to help the patients. They feel valued when they participate!

Top Team: BD has launched the BD Ultra FineTM Nano - 4mm. Which are the differentials of such product?
Fernanda Vilallobos: In the past people who were considered fat used thicker needles than the thin ones. For this classification, the patient´s BMI was taken into consideration. However, clinical studies taken in the United States broke such theory as they were able to prove that a 4mm-needle can reach the under skin region and apply insulin in the correct tissue. So, why should we cause unnecessary discomfort to patients?

Top Team: How did physicians and pharmacy professionals react?
Fernanda Vilallobos: Very positively. By making use of 4mm needle, the patient must not skin fold and feel less pain when applying as the product is thinner and smaller.

Top Team: Hospitals are also an important market for the BD. How does the company work with them?
Fernanda Vilallobos: We launched a syringe portfolio for insulin application, by providing more safety to the healthcare professional, who is always concerned about the patients. In order to avoid accidents or contamination, there is a safety device.

Top Team: To wrap up, tell me about the partnership between you and pharmexx Brazil?
Fernanda Vilallobos: The results of the medical detailing have been great. We established a reliable partnership. Pharmexx leaders, together with their team have been involved in the project with commitment and they quickly correct any non-conformity. That´s the great differential of the company.
