“At the moment we have got 35 registration requests at ANVISA”

While working at Aché, Luis Tadeu Strongolli, simply known as Tadeu, attended a speech at the company and set a goal that would change his life: “I want to be like this man. I want to lead three, four hundred people”.

What Tadeu did not know yet is that he would go further. “My leaders were the ones who told me I was going to reach the presidency”.

Tadeu, who also worked at Sanofi-Aventis and Cristália, and now the current president of Torrent in Brazil, analyzes the present scenario of the company and talks about the “pipeline” of products and their next steps.

You took over the presidency during the last semester of 2013, by having the challenge of, as a short term goal, increasing Torrent revenue by 23%. Has this goal been achieved yet?
Torrent has two fiscal years: Brazil and India. During the fiscal year in Brazil, January through December, we reached 21% growth in revenue. We´re almost there!

How does Torrent interpret such results?
We had some economic factors in Brazil which contributed to this scenario. Besides, we had expected to launch two more drugs last year, but we couldn´t get the registration at ANVISA.

So, we interpret those results very positively.

How many drugs does Torrent have about to be released by ANVISA?
At the moment we have 35 registration requests at ANVISA. Some have been there for over two years. We expect to send over twelve dossiers in 2014.

Does Torrent intend to invest in new markets this year? Which ones?
In 2014, we will strengthen markets and search for new therapy segments. Two of them have already been analyzed by the company. Another important aspect is the oncology market. We have decided to seek international partnerships to license new products and get into this market. We have been negotiating. The generic segment will also be strengthened over the next years. Today we count on 13 molecules. We intend to reach 60 molecules in the next four years.

Does the development of strategic partnerships bring differentials to the operation?
Absolutely. Torrent strongly believes in the efficacy of strategic partnerships. Pharmexx Brasil is a good example. We have been partners for over five years and we have had great results. At the moment, our medical detailing project counts on 28 professionals and we intend to expand such board.
