Brazilian Scenario
“The Brazilian market of vaccines shows features that differ from the other segments of the pharmaceutical industry. The public sector strongly acts whereas the private sector is represented by a small number of players. Both complement each other and in some cases keep on competing”, says Gilberto Freitas, the executive director of CODEM - Business Consulting.
New players
Freitas, who has already been a consultant at Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics and at Zodiac Pharmaceutical products, highlights that Brazil, due to its high population and its emerging country status, represents an attractive market for vaccines. “There is room for new players in the restrict group of companies that act in this segment. Another example is the Japanese Takeda, which has come into the Brazilian Market with innovative vaccines”.
Anvisa
The executive director of CODEM - Business Consulting – points out that lately it has taken 640 days for Anvisa to release vaccines register. “In order to try to reduce such deadline, a new Decree has been signed by the President of Brazil, which gives new responsibilities to Anvisa, allowing optimizations of procedures for licensing vaccines within shorter time ”, he wraps up.
