“The emerging countries are the ones that have grown at Zambon Group”

Top Team: How do you evaluate the new tecnological advances in the pharmaceutical industry?

Alessandra Miyazaki: I will answer this question in two parts. Firstly, concerning the products, something is clear. We have followed the world increasingly tending to work with generics. The market is getting commoditized. Secondly, you must have high technological development in your line of products and some innovation within the laboratory like, for instance, market intelligence, which is one of our greatest competitive differentials.

Top Team: Speaking about Market Intelligence, what does this department mean within the industry?

Alessandra Miyazaki: Few laboratories are really aware of the importance of the Market Intelligence department. It is the heart of the industry. This area used to be totally operational but nowadays it is getting more and more strategic. In the future, we will receive all data ready and this area will be part of the entire company. Market intelligence is the people´s analytical potential developer instead of simply a chart developer.

Top Team: So, is the professional updating a need so that they are able to interprete data?

Alessandra Miyazaki: Undoubtfully. However, the new generation of professionals has already started getting into the industry thinking like that. The Market Intelligence itself has already acted not only aiming at handing in reports but training people who need information.

Top Team: To wrap this up, how do you analyze the pharmaceutical market?

Alessandra Miyazaki: We have some positive aspects like the economy, inflation, interest rate and dollar. On the other hand, we see the generics growth and the control of prices. However, the IMS bets that in 2007 the Brazilian pharmaceutical market will grow around 7% to 10%. I agree. It is a much better rate than in Europe, where such rate reaches 4%. The emerging countries are the ones that have grown at Zambon group, like, for instance, Russia, China, Brazil and Colombia.
