Generics of noble molecules
“A new company, with different policies and new professionals”. By saying that, Osvaldo Jacomeli Júnior describes how the generics division of Torrent was set up, which counts on 12 molecules strategically chosen.
The executive, who is majored in Business Administration with post-graduation in Sales from University of São Paulo and worked at Farmasa, Hypermarcas and Medley, was hired one year ago by the Indian company aiming to launch this new unit. “For over four years the company has studied this possibility. In October we will have the official launch”.
During an exclusive interview to Top Team, Jacomeli talks about the strategies used, analyzes the market of generics and states: “Torrent aims to be, within two years, one of the twelve biggest companies of the segment”.

What is the strategy that Torrent will make use of to enter the generics market?
We have bet on generics of noble molecules, which provide a very interesting balance by offering a better average ticket to the point of sales and to the consumer the best price of the market for high quantity of drugs.
Is the Market of generics ready yet?
Not yet. This might happen around 2015 or 2016. In the United States, for instance, generics correspond to most part of medicine sales. However, in Brazil, this is not true yet. A relevant strength of the Brazilian market is that the government supports the selling of generics.
Is there still room for other players in the generics Market?
I believe so. However, in order to enter it is necessary to have a different strategy and bet on new molecules. Torrent will strongly invest in generics and has a goal of becoming one of the biggest companies of this segment within two years.
How can we have a good relationship with wholesalers?
The main aspect is the credibility. In our case, Torrent is its own business card and gives all the credibility to our generics division. Counting on a committed team is crucial. Another important aspect is to have a well-defined strategy and offer products with aggregated value.
To wrap up, Torrent counts on the support of sales reps teams of pharmexx Brasil. How do you assess their work so far?
The team is very well trained and has brought great results to small and medium-sized retailers. We are highly satisfied and we consider pharmexx Brasil a strategic partner.
