Oscar Wilde used to say: “tying a knot is the first serious step for a man”. In order to clarify some doubts, Top Team talked to specialist Luis Dantas, who offers crucial hints as it follows:
Tying a knot for work:“I recommend Half Windsor or any of its variations, for it balances good-looking and practical use"
Tying a knot for a party: “If it is an ordinary party, choose Half Windsor. If it is a more relaxed one, choose the traditional American tie (Four-in-hand). But in my opinion the best one would be the Bow tie, fairly unknown but simpler than the American tie and also more symmetric."
simple knot:: “It is just a simple knot around the narrowest end of the tie. Note that there are common elements among all knots. Learn which those elements are. All knots require movement from the widest end to the narrowest one in order to form an upside-down triangle and all of them end the same way, with the movement to the internal part and downwards."
Other kinds of knots: “Some start from the internal invisible sewing (ordinary knot, Shelby knot), but most (American knot, Windsor knot) start from the underneath sewing”.
Look at the label
Gustavo Sarti, a fashion consultant, recommends that the Top Team reader always checks the tie label about the composition of the product. For him, the ideal is 100% wool or 100% silk. Besides having such concern, the consumer suggests that the executive avoids doing the knot today if he intends to wear it tomorow. "Your problems will only increase as you will have to undo it to iron the tie and then do it again." , states Sarti.
